Course Overview:
This exciting new course will really boost your skills and confidence. The focus of this course is on coaching the mind and performance coaching for skill acquisition. We will be combining effective practice, motivationally supportive learning environments and mental skills training. This two day, practically based, course will be based on the River Wye at Symonds Yat, in stunning Ross-on-Wye.

You will be introduced to the basic principles of effective practice and performance psychology. We will cover all of the theory in the British Canoeing, Coaching the Mind Intermediate module and put it into practice, blending bite sizes of theory with lots of time on the water. This course brings the theory up to date and into a cohesive and user-friendly format. You will gain a good understanding of how to develop skilful performance and how to use mental skills effectively. All practice is not equal!

Course outline:
• Introduction to the principles of effective practice
• Understand motivation theories and their importance for learning
• Introduction to mental skills (arousal, motivation, focus of attention, imagery, self-talk, and performance profiling)
• Develop your own performance profile and goal setting
• Lots of application and practice to engage, inspire, motivate, and result in effective learning.

Discipline and format:
Lots of practical and some theory. White Water (Canoe & Kayak). Bring either or both!

Prerequisites:
Commitment to learning and personal ability to fully participate (at least intro white water). This course is aimed at paddlers who would really like to boost their skills and confidence, and coaches/ coach educators who wish to increase their understanding of the theory and application of effective practice and performance psychology.
